Tony787 · 11 months agoYou know, it always fascinates me how small the minds of children really are, and how easy and effortless it is to fool them. YES, the show is brilliantly drawn and animated, but NO, this does not make Amy Pholer a genius. Granted I don't hate Amy Pholer, but anybody who has ever watched SNL knows that "Bessie Higgenbottom" is just a cartoon version of Mary Katherine Gallagher, a famous SNL character in the mid 90s that was invented and played by Molly Shannon. Amy Pholer just stole the character, right down to the same peppy energetically clumsy naiveness, the eternal optimism, and the social akwardness, ALL that was Mary Katherine Gallagher. Even the dorky eyeglasses are almost identical. For those who don't remember, Mary Katherine was a catholic geeky schoolgirl who secretly dreamed of being a SUPERSTAR, which was also the phrase she'd yell out on one knee after her entertainment attempts ended up wrecking the place and weirding everyone else out. Hell I bet Amy Pholer wouldve made Bessie a catholic schoolgirl too, but somebody mustve talked her out of that, and tweaking some other stuff around so the copyright infrigment wouldn't look so obvious. Christ Amy, shame on you. Why didn't you just go ahead and base Bessie off of one of your own SNL characters instead of going around stealing other people's? Oh wait, you didn't have any original SNL characters. Unless you count playing Andy's dorky little sister way back in the earlier Conan years. You could've based Bessie on that. Hu? A little girl with dreams of dating her favorite red-headed late night talk show host whom she'd have a huge crush on. It would still have worked: She'd be enrolled in a theater/music school to train to be in a childrens chorus so she could make it to his show as a chorus singer during his Christmas specials, where she would then tell him how she felt. See? Not hard at all. But again, kids'll buy anything you throw at them: just look at "Totally Spies" (PowerPuff copout), "Jimmy Neutron" (TOTAL Dexter's Lab copout down to the T- I personally don't know how it hasn't been sued by Cartoon Network, unless it's also owned by Viacom, which that would explain at least that), and let's not forget Edgar & Ellen (Wednesday and Pugsley Adams), and while I'm rolling my eyes, "Martin Mystery" (the worst clone of Scooby-Doo but minus the dog), just to deal with the nausea. I seriously hope we can start to see less cartoon executives who see children as little dollar sign morons, and more people who RESPECT animation more as a creative outlet of ORIGINAL expression. That's my two cents, thanks for reading!!

But Bessie H got them all beat. Cant wait till new episodes kum out, the best episode is when Bessie and Happy go to the doctor and when Portia's locket go's missin'. it's so hilarious........
